Using BIM for renovation projects can have several advantages:
- It describes and defines the buildings exact existing geometry and measurements, thus eliminating the risks and unforeseen expenses that normally occur when doing refurbishment and renovation design based on hand measurements and/or old scanned 2D-drawings.
- It makes relevant information immediately available (and continuously updated) for all the stakeholders (architects, designers, service companies, constructors, end-customers), who can provide instant feedback before construction starts;
- It can be interfaced with other software tools for energy verification or work planning, thus supporting decision-making in the design phase and speeding up the development of scheduling and job shop drawings.
